GasBuddy’s Fuel and C-Store Report Card Q1 2018

|

Casey’s General Store, Murphy USA, Wawa, Kwik Trip top list

GasBuddy today issued the quarterly report card ranking fuel and convenience store (c-store) brands. Based on more than a million ratings submitted by GasBuddy users in the app between Jan 1 – March 31, 2018, the rankings examine fuel and c-store retailers by number of store locations across the categories of cleanliness, coffee, customer service, outdoor lighting, restrooms and overall experience.

Brands topping the list in their respected segments include Iowa-based Casey’s General Store (1000+ locations), Wisconsin-based Kwik Trip (250 – 999 locations), Iowa-based Hy-Vee (50 – 249 locations) and Texas-based Buc-ee’s (30 – 49 locations).

“Whether fuel and convenience store brands have a national presence or a regional focus, consumers still have countless options when it comes to picking their pit stop, ” says Frank Beard, convenience store and retail trends analyst at GasBuddy. “As evidenced by GasBuddy ratings and reviews, these brands stand out from their competition by controlling the customer experience that goes far beyond the pump.”

Highlights

  • Casey’s General Store makes a strong showing in Q1, capturing the top spot in four of the six categories amongst fuel and c-stores with more than 1000 locations.
  • The rivalry that causes heated social media debates: Wawa vs. Sheetz. This quarter Wawa outranked Sheetz in all categories.
  • Wawa also moves up in coffee category. In GasBuddy’s previous study about gas station coffee, QuikTrip captured the top spot in the most states, followed by Wawa. In Q1 2018, Wawa received top ratings for best cup of coffee, while QuikTrip ranked third in the segment with 250 – 999 locations.
  • Buc-ee’s captured the highest ratings in the nation in all categories, despite number of retail locations.
  • Customer service received the most ratings of any category, followed by cleanliness and outdoor lighting.
  • For budget-minded drivers, GasBuddy is the travel and navigation app that is used by more North American drivers to save money on gas than any other. Unlike fuel retailer apps, as well as newer apps focused on fuel savings, GasBuddy covers 150,000+ gas stations in North America, giving drivers 27 ways to save on fuel. That’s why GasBuddy has been downloaded nearly 90 million times – more than any other travel and navigation app focused on gas savings.
