5 Money Saving Travel Tips for Memorial Day Weekend!

|

It’s Memorial Day and that means one thing – road trip! Gas prices are at an all-time high but we don’t want that to get you down. Here are some easy travel tips to help you spend less and win the weekend!

1. Fill up before you head out
Gas prices are known to creep up right before Memorial Day. The earlier in the week you can fuel up, the better. GasBuddy can help you find the best price or closest station so you can check out which neighborhood station has the best deal for you. Also, GasBuddy’s recent study shows that Thursday and Friday are the most expensive and busiest days to purchase gas. If you can fuel up on a Monday and then top off right before you leave, you can save yourself some money.

2. Find ways to save
Loyalty and reward programs can save you money when you‘re on the road. For example, after your first 5-gallon fill-up, Fuel Rewards® members earn 35¢ per gallon at Shell stations the first time they use the Chase Pay® app*. Those savings and earnings can add up! Make sure to check out programs that reward you for spending more while you travel.

3. Map it out
Getting lost is the worst and a waste of time, especially for a short 3-day trip! When it’s time for a pit stop, GasBuddy can help you find the best gas station for you — whether you are looking for the lowest price, the closest proximity or in need of a restroom. Once you’ve found a station, tap “Directions” to make sure you get there fast.

4. Stock up on snacks
GasBuddy’s ratings and reviews can help you find a station with the best cup of coffee to perk you up while you drive. Take the opportunity to grab some snacks and drinks, too! When traffic hits and you’re sitting there hungry and thirsty, you’ll be thankful you did! (And return the favor by leaving a rating to let other roadtrippers know if that station was worth the stop!)

5. Whoa! Slow down
We know you’re anxious to get to your final destination but speeding and aggressive driving (like hard braking and accelerating quickly) really decrease your fuel efficiency and can eat up your gas (and your budget). Check out our Trips feature to see whether your driving habits on this road trip are safe and budget friendly.

*Earn 35¢/gallon in Fuel Rewards savings with the Chase Pay app at Shell after your first 5-gallon fill-up. Terms and Conditions apply. Offer ends 12/31/2018. Limited offers available. Limit 20 gallons.

For budget-minded drivers, GasBuddy is the travel and navigation app that is used by more North American drivers to save money on gas than any other. Unlike fuel retailer apps, as well as newer apps focused on fuel savings, GasBuddy covers 150,000+ gas stations in North America, giving drivers 27 ways to save on fuel. That’s why GasBuddy has been downloaded nearly 90 million times – more than any other travel and navigation app focused on gas savings.
