Wet Roads from Rain More Hazardous Than Snow and Ice

|

If you live in the southern United States, cold and chilly rain from Canada can be more troublesome than snow.  Take our tip: Now is the best time to be sure your auto insurance is paid and policies are up to date.

Why?  The Federal Highway Administration (FHA) states that traffic across the U.S. is officially worse than ever before, and rain can complicate driving even more.

There’s an average of 5,748,000 vehicle crashes each year in the U.S., with 22% being weather related.  Of weather-related crashes, 73% happen on wet pavement due to rainfall, far outpacing the rate of crashes resulting from snow, ice and other winter conditions.

The reality is that—due to lower gas prices—there are more people driving more cars for more hours, increasing the odds for more crashes. According to the FHA, drivers in the U.S. drove 1.58 trillion miles in the first six months of 2016. That’s 40 billion miles more than the same period last year —a new record!

With more people on the road, and with winter upon us, it’s time to be sure your auto insurance policy protects you. Don’t wait until it’s too late.

For budget-minded drivers, GasBuddy is the travel and navigation app that is used by more North American drivers to save money on gas than any other. Unlike fuel retailer apps, as well as newer apps focused on fuel savings, GasBuddy covers 150,000+ gas stations in North America, giving drivers 27 ways to save on fuel. That’s why GasBuddy has been downloaded nearly 90 million times – more than any other travel and navigation app focused on gas savings.
